Talking points

It’s been a while since I’ve made a Blog Post! I’m going to go short because there’s so much to say! (Don’t worry, blog posts will be back to normal in the next post)
Itunes 10 is great, but devoid of color, and the new user interface takes getting used to. Cool new logo! It’s getting criticism though.
A new iPod nano is on the way, looks like the new Shuffle except it has a multi touch screen.
iPod shuffle is like iPod nano, but scroll wheel instead of Touch Screen.
Ping- Apple’s new Music based Social network! Direct access from itunes 10.
New youtube show- Geek Stuff- Styled after Alton Brown’s “Good Eats” show, talking tech!
Everything Sonic!- Talking about sonic on the same youtube channel! (Coming Soon)

Has Social networking gone too far?

If you were to talk into your preferred grocery store of your choice, what is the first thing you see? In my case, I see a big banner saying “Follow us on Twitter” “Friend us on Facebook” and “Find us on Myspace”All in big green letters.

This is ultimately useless, unless you don’t find a point in social networking. I’m not going to follow Wal-Mart on twitter, there’s something called TV, and that’s how i’m going to get the Wal-Mart news. I don’t friend companies on facebook, I “Like” them. But ditto with the Twitter comment. As for myspace, I don’t understand why people use myspace anymore. Soon I’m going to see “find/friend us on GoogleMe” GoogleMe is google’s upcoming social network. I’ll probably do a video on google, but the date of that is unknown.

Social networking should have a face when it comes to profiles made on that network. I don’t want to be friending companies in order to get their news feed, I can just go to the store and see what new products they have.

When it comes to companies like supermarkets, just forget about keeping in touch with your customers via Facebook.

Social networking has gone too far, it’s becoming a way of life. Keep the Facebook for Real people, not faceless companies. Twitter, I’d say not for things only local people have access too, like a wegmans in richmond, virginia. Following large, commercial companies should be on Twitter. Companies like best buy and radioshack should be followed on twitter, maybe.

Qumana FTW

Looks like Qumana is the way to go! I’m doing this from my Mac. Windows Live Writer is the way to go from Windows. I’ll do a review and comparison of the 2 Sometime, I guess!

Verizon to get iPhone in 2011

It’s been reported that the iPhone will definitely be coming to Verizon wireless phone service in January 2011. I will definitely be getting it. The fact that the iPhone’s second U.S. carrier would be Verizon is not a surprise — it’s the largest U.S. carrier based on subscriber numbers. It will coincide with Verizon’s new 4G network system that they will lay out. AT&T will also be doing the same thing, but they are just throwing themselves down a lava pit as Verizon (Having more coverage and faster speeds) will beat them down!

And Apple Pulls a Vista with iOS4

The biggest feature in iOS4, the latest update of the iPhone OS, Multitasking, got worse reception than Windows Vista
As PCWorld clearly states,“most apps won’t do anything except go to sleep, which means one of the classic tricks of multitasking, loading one task while you perform another, is not available unless the developer adds that function under a special task completion API. Some apps, such as Flickr, may take advantage of this feature for large file transfers, but others won’t. Waiting for a YouTube video to buffer over a 3G connection? It won’t go anywhere unless you’re staring at the loading screen”. Ouch… poor Apple. Like the Newton, the Cube, and some other products, Apple blew it.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SONIC THE HEDGEHOG

Today, Sonic The Hedgehog turns 19 years old. 19 years ago, Sonic The Hedgehog was released for the sega mega drive/genesis. He soon went on to 2 sequels, a game on the SEGA CD, 8 full 3d games, and a number of small games for game boy advance and nintendo DS. He hasn’t been getting good rep on his 3D games lately, but that’s because they don’t base the gameplay on the Sonic Adventure games. Sonic is still a national icon, and is still at a gaming war with Mario. Forever SONIC, SONIC THE HEDGEHOG

iPhone 4 is Official!!!

After many, many leaked images of the new iPhone, Steve Jobs makes it official.
This iPhone is the newest model,
Steve Jobs: “Stop me if you’ve already seen this, believe me, you ain’t seen it.”
The new iPhone 4 Boasts a stunning amount of upgrades, most being very significant and not like certain Mac OS X updates that barely change for the most part.
1st off, there’s the Screen. This screen is made with aluminosilicate glass. This glass is chemically engineered to be 20 times more stiff and 30 times harder than plastic. It’s that extra strength you need in case of a drop.
2nd off, the camera now shoots HD video, 5 Megapixels. It includes an LED flash. This isn’t so much of an innovation as it is a catching up with modern phones.
3rd, there’s the processor and motion sensor. Like the iPad, the iPhone 4 will use the Apple 1 ghz A4 processor. It will also have a 3 axis gyroscope for motion sensing apps.
There is a new display. A Retina Display that is crystal clear and it takes a lot before the text or any picture shows pixels. This is a true innovation, and it’s a real difference versus the 3GS.

The iPhone 4 will also be made from stainless steel instead of the plastic used in the last 2 models. I think that this doesn’t really matter, as something will scratch it. For sound and video, this is where the iPhone 4 shines the most. There are 2 microphones for unwanted sound cancellation. And 2 video cameras. One is for taking photos, and the other is for FaceTime
FaceTime is an innovation for Apple. It’s video chat on the iPhone. Unfortunately, it only works when you are connected to a Wi-Fi network, so connecting to a 3G network is nothing for this. Also, it only works when both people have iPhone 4′s, so don’t expect to use this as your main communication device soon
The greatest update in iPhone 4 is the iOS 4. This will feature multitasking, folders for apps, backgrounds for your home screen, and a few other things that don’t really shine out. This somewhat disappoints me, as there are few real shiny updates that stand out. I wish apple would make more innovations, I really do.
I also have a video on my opinion, and whether I will get it or not! Check out the videos tab on my website for it!

Should Schools put more Tech in their Curriculum?

Schools today don’t have students using computers regularly, and having students bring their own is usually out of the question. Technology that can be accessed and used easily is not regularly used in schools for subjects like math, english, history etc. Computer Science classes are a whole other question. Is this a good idea? Using computers in class will allow people quick and easy access to information, and they won’t waste any paper. On the other hand, they have easy access to information, and it’s easy to get distracted on the web and young students from kindergarten to senior year can go to inappropriate sites or worse, buy something online and cost the school money. If we were to trust all of this access to information into young students hands, could we trust them with it or should we not even think of it? Leave your ideas in the comments.
(BTW college is a whole other question, students need their laptops for research 24/7 and multiple college campuses require you to have a laptop.)
